Musing of the Day

March 27, 2012

At the grocery store today, the lady at the cash register greeted me with the brightest smile ever. It cheered me up and reminded me that I for one should smile at strangers more often.

I’m really happy that nowadays in this crazy world, a simple smile has a real power .

I am always amazed at how poorly some people treat others, especially when you want something from them. I’ve always found that, especially when you are paying someone to provide a service to you (i.e. a waiter/waitress, clerk, etc…) that a smile and a friendly attitude get you even more than you bargained for. Not only that, but the service provider feels better about their day and about the job they are doing. A smile costs nothing and gains you much, a poor attitude loses you more than you think!!

The Value of a Smile (By Frank Irving Fletcher)

It costs nothing, but creates much
It enriches those who receive without impoverishing those who give.
